Last week (April 2024), I discovered that there are online AI music generators, and what they can do turned out to be incredibly good. I mean, these aren’t just computer sounds, nor are they chaotic noises mixed together. The instruments sound as if they are real, even raging electric guitars sound authentic.
So, they really do compose music together, using the requested instruments in the desired style… including the desired vocals and lyrics. All this, of course, if you know how to ask with the appropriate prompts.
Most music generators, by the way, won’t respond to the names of bands or singers, probably as a security measure against misuse of group names and plagiarism. What you can do, however, is describe a band’s music as accurately as possible if you want to achieve something in a similar style. To get started, you might ask ChatGPT to describe the music of a band—or even better, several of your favorite bands. From this, you can derive a lot to create a good prompt for the music you want.

Instrumenten klinken alsof ze echt zijn, zelfs tierende electrische guitaren klinken echt.
Ze componeren dus echt muziek bijeen, met de gevraagde instrumenten in de gewenste stijl …tot zelfs de gewenste vocals en lyrics.
Dit allemaal als je natuurlijk weet hoe het met gepaste prompts te vragen.
De meeste muziekgenerators gaan overigens niet luisteren naar namen van groepen of zangers, wellicht is dat ook een beetje een beveiliging tegen misbruiken van groepsnaam en plagiaat. Wat je wel kunt doen is de muziek van een groep zo goed mogelijk beschrijven als je iets in een gelijkaardige stijl wil bekomen. Om te starten kun je bijvoorbeeld ook vragen aan ChatGPT om muziek van een groep – of beter nog van meerdere van je favoriete groepen – te beschrijven. Daaruit kun je dan heel veel halen om een goeie prompt samen te stellen voor de muziek die je zelf wenst.
